
Dr. Veeraswamy Seshiah
Dr. Veeraswamy Seshiah received the Padma Shri award. He founded the first Department of Diabetes in India at the Madras Medical College and is the first professor of diabetes in the country.
Who is Dr. Veeraswamy Seshiah?

Seshiah was raised in Chennai, where she was born. His mother Mrs. Bavanamma was a stay-at-home mom, and his father Mr. Veeraswamy worked for the railways. His older brother was an inspiration. Doctor Perumal In 1957, the Golden Jubilee year of Madras Medical College, Seshiah enrolled there to study medicine.
He offered to serve in the Indo-China War in 1962. He enlisted there in the Indian Army Corps as a Lieutenant. He later attained the rank of Captain for the Infantry Battalion in J&K and participated in the Indo-Pak War. He received the Samar Seva Star and Sainya Seva Medal for his military devotion to the country. After that, he finished his medical degree at Stanley Medical College. Hé was tutored by the great teachers Prof. M. Viswanathan and Prof. P. B. Sadhasivam. He worked with his mentor Prof. Sam G. P. Moses at Madras Medical College (MMC) after finishing his studies there as an assistant professor.
