Dr. Motilal Madan
The Padma Shri was presented to Dr. Moti Lal Madan, a veterinary scientist from Karnal who is renowned for developing the first IVF buffalo calf, Pratham.
Who is Dr. Motilal Madan ?
Dr. Motilal Madan was born in 1939 in Srinagar. When he was younger, he spent more time with his grandfather. When his grandfather used to take him outside the house, he would describe the places he went. He explained that animals in our region become infertile extremely quickly and in big numbers during this time. When Dada inquired about a cure for infertility, he was told that nothing was impossibly feasible in this world. Just put forth a lot of effort by setting goals.
In 1959, he graduated with a gold medal from the Punjab College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry with a BVSc (Veterinary Medicine) degree. After that, in 1965, he received his MVSc degree with a gold medal from the National Dairy Research Institute in Karnal. Later, in 1971, he earned his doctorate (Ph.D.) from the University of Missouri.
