Shri Pramod Bhagat receives a Padma Shri award from President Kovind for sport at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. He competes internationally in Para-Badminton and won the Gold Medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. He is the current World No. 1 and Men’s Singles and Men’s Doubles World Champion.

Pramod Bhagat was born to parents from Hajipur, Vaishali district, Bihar, at Attabira, Bargarh, Odisha. He is one of a total of six siblings. He contracted polio when he was five years old, which left his left leg disabled. He first became interested in badminton when he was 13 years old and went to see a game.

He was completely absorbed in the game for the following two years, perfecting his footwork, fitness, and game-specific habits. When Pramod was 15 years old, he participated in his first tournament against competitors in his usual division. The support of the audience inspired him to advance in his badminton career.
