Sonu Nigam receives the Padma Shri award for art from President Kovind. He is a renowned vocalist and music director who has performed more than 6,000 songs in over 28 different languages.

Who is Sonu Nigam?

Sonu Nigam was born on 30 July 1973 to Agam Kumar Nigam and Shobha Nigam in the city of Faridabad, Haryana. His mother came from Garhwal, while his father was from Agra. A professional singer as well, Teesha Nigam is his sister. He also has a sister named Meenal Nigam, a yoga practitioner who lives.

At the age of four, Nigam accompanied his father Agam Kumar Nigam on stage to perform the song “Kya Hua Tera Wada” by Mohammed Rafi. Nigam started singing along with his father while he performed at events like weddings and parties. At the age of 19, he and his father relocated to Mumbai where he started his Bollywood singing career. Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan, a Hindustani classical singer, trained him.

Nigam claims to be a Hindu. On February 15, 2002, Madhurima Mishra and he was married. Nevaan is the name of their kid. 

Invoking numerological principles, Nigam originally changed his name to Sonu Nigam but then chose to return to it.
