In 1938, in Gujarat, India’s Malji Bhai Desai, a politician, and social crusader was born. He adheres to Gandhi’s teachings. He founded the Gandhi Ashram in the village of Zilia in the Patan district in 1964 to aid the rural inhabitants of Gujarat in advancing economically and intellectually. Under the direction of the Ashram, numerous educational institutions were established, and different initiatives for the community’s economic development were carried out. Desai, a fervent devotee of Gandhi, used the Ashram to educate the people about the Gandhian way of thinking. The Indian National Congress has ties to the politician Malji Bhai Desai. He was selected to represent the Chanasma Assembly Constituency in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly in 2002.
