Smt. Durga Bai Vyam receives the Padma Shri award for art from President Kovind. She is a Madhya Pradesh-born Pardhan Gond artist. She has put a lot of effort into revitalizing tribal art. Her paintings are mostly inspired by the traditions and folklore of her people.
Who is Durgabai Vyam ?
Durgabai Vyam was born in the Madhya Pradesh village of Burbaspur in 1973. She is a prominent female artist working in the Gond tribal art tradition who is headquartered in Bhopal. The majority of Durga’s creations are inspired by Barbaspur, a village in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandla area where she was born.
She first acquired the craft of Digna from her mother when she was six years old. During weddings and harvest festivals, geometric designs are painted on the inside and exterior walls, as well as the floors, of the home.
