Prof. Vishwa Murti Shastri
Prof. Vishwa Murti Shastri receives the Padma Shri award from President Kovind for literature and education. He is from Jammu and Kashmir and is an expert on Sanskrit literature. He is commended for his tenacious efforts and involvement in social activities.
Who is Vishwamurti Shastri ?
Vishwamurti Shastri was born in 1946 to Pandit Anant Ram Jyotshi and Uma Devi in a tiny village in the Ramnagar tehsil of the Udhampur district. From Jammu and Kashmir University, he successfully passed Shastri in 1965 and Acharya in 1967. In 1986, the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, Deemed University conferred a Ph.D. on him.
Vishwamurti Shastri is a Sanskrit scholar who specializes in Vedic literature and associated topics. He was the Jammu-based Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan’s principal. In 2019, he was chosen to serve on the Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB). He oversees operations at Katra’s Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul. Additionally, he leads the J&K Dharmarth Trust Advisory Committee.
Numerous books in Sanskrit have been authored by Prof. Shastri. In J&K, he has set up numerous informal Sanskrit education initiatives. During Navratras, he has given religious sermons from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan, which are broadcast live on national TV channels.
