Delhi, India March 28 Sumit Antil, a javelin thrower who has won a gold medal in the Paralympics, was given the renowned Padma Shri award on Monday. 

India’s Sumit Antil won a gold medal in the javelin throw at the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo. In the men’s javelin throw, Antil not only won gold but also broke his own personal world record 3 times in the finals with 68.55 metres.

At a ceremony held today at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Ram Nath Kovind presented Sumit Antil with his distinguished award. 

The three categories of Padma awards are Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. These honours are presented in a variety of professions and fields, including the arts, social work, politics, science, engineering, business, medical, literature and education, sports, and public service.

Awarded for extraordinary and distinguished service are the “Padma Vibhushan,” “Padma Bhushan,” and “Padma Shri,” as well as excellent service in any field. Every year, on Republic Day, the winners are announced. 

The President of India bestows these honours during formal events held at Rashtrapati Bhavan often in March or April of each year. (ANI)

Who is Sumit Antil?

On JunJaveline 7, 1998, in the Sonipat, Haryana, village of Khevda, Sumit Antil was born. Sumit was only 7 years old when his father, Raj Kumar, passed away from illness while he was serving in the Air Force. Mother Nirmala raised the four kids when the father passed away.
