Padma Vibhushan is the second-highest civilian award in the Republic of India. It is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service in any field, including the arts, education, industry, literature, science, sports, social service, and public affairs. The award is presented by the President of India and it is one of the highest honors in the country.

Biography of Padma Vibhushan Recipients

Shri Balkrishna Doshi was born on 26 August 1927. He was an Indian architect and urban planner who was awarded the Padma Vibhushan (posthumously) in 2018. He was known for his contributions to the field of architecture and urban design in India, and for promoting low-cost housing for the poor. Doshi was a key figure in the development of modern architecture in India, and his works were characterized by their functional design, sensitivity to a local context, and integration of traditional Indian forms and materials with modern building techniques. He passed away on 24 January 2023.

Dilip Mahalanabis was born November 12, 1934. He was an Indian pediatrician who is credited with developing oral rehydration therapy for the treatment of diarrheal illnesses. As a research associate with the Johns Hopkins University International Center for Medical Research and Training in Calcutta, India, Mahalanabis started studying oral rehydration therapy in 1966.

Mulayam Singh Yadav is born on 22 November 1939. He is an Indian politician and former Chief Minister of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. He is the founder of the Samajwadi Party and has served as a Member of Parliament and as a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. Yadav has been a prominent figure in Indian politics for several decades and has been associated with various political movements and parties throughout his career. However, I could not find any information indicating that he has received the Padma Vibhushan award.

Dr. Zakir Hussain was born on 9 March 1951. He is an Indian musician and percussionist awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1988. He was a leading figure in the field of Indian classical music. He was known for his mastery of the tabla, a percussion instrument commonly used in classical, devotional, and popular music in India. Hussain was a prolific performer and collaborated with musicians from India and worldwide. He was also a respected educator and cultural ambassador, and he established several institutions in India to promote music education and cultural exchange.

Shri S. M. Krishna is born on 1 May 1932. He was an Indian politician and former Chief Minister of the Indian state of Karnataka. He has also served as the Minister of External Affairs of India and as a member of the Indian Parliament. Krishna is a senior leader of the Indian National Congress and has been active in Indian politics for several decades. He has made significant contributions to the development of Karnataka and has played a key role in the formation and implementation of several important policies and initiatives in the state. However, I could not find any information indicating that he has received the Padma Vibhushan award.

  1. R. Srinivasa Varadhan is born on 2 January 1940. He is an Indian-American mathematician who was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2021. He is known for his contributions to the fields of probability theory and stochastic analysis, and he has made significant contributions to our understanding of the mathematical foundations of statistical mechanics, large deviations theory, and the theory of random processes. Varadhan is a fellow of the National Academy of Sciences and the Royal Society and has received several other awards and honors for his work. He is currently a professor of mathematics at New York University.
