Dr. Bhimsen Singhal
Dr. Bhimsen Singhal receives a Padma Shri award for medicine from President Kovind. Director of Neurology at Bombay Hospital Institute of Medical Sciences, he is one of the famous neurologists in India who has contributed considerably to the advancement of neurology over the last 60 years.
Who is Dr. Bhimsen Singhal?
Singhal was born on January 23, 1933, in Mount Abu. After completing his education at Mount Abu and his pre-medical coursework at Maharaja’s College in Jaipur, he went on to Mumbai’s Grant Medical College and Sir J. J. Group of Hospitals to pursue his medical degree.
In 1956, he earned his MBBS, and in 1959, his MD. He had his first training in neurology in Mumbai before traveling abroad to complete his education at the UCL Institute of Neurology in London. He earned his MRCP (Edinburgh) and MRCP (London) during his training in the United Kingdom, respectively, in 1960 and 1961. In 1973, the Royal College of Edinburgh named him a Fellow; in 1985, the Royal College of London did likewise.
