The majestic palace extends over 6000 hectares. The charm of the building is the fantastic setting and the unhurried lifestyle. You can explore a world of leisurely nature walks, lake boat rides, sanctuary dinners and desert safaris. One of Rajasthan's "best kept secrets", Gajner is only a 30 minute drive from the city of Bikaner.
History
The Gajner Palace in Bikaner was built primarily as a hunting place during the British Raj period. The royal residence has hosted several dignitaries including the Prince of Wales in 1905, Governor General Lord Elgin, Lord Erwin in 1927 and even Lord Mountbatten when he was Viceroy of India. The shooting of the imperial capercaillie in the palace during the Christmas season was the most coveted invitation on the Indian social calendar. In addition to a pleasant landscape and architectural beauty, the palace complex also preserves the remains of a historic railway station. This yacht resort was connected to the Bikaner Palace by train in 1922. Although time has passed, the palace is elegant and is reminiscent of times gone by.
