Who is Smt. Gamit Ramilaben Raysingbhai?
Ramilaben Raysingbhai was born on June 1st, 1969 in Gujarat’s Gamit group of Adivasi native Bhil people. The neighbourhood is listed as one of the scheduled tribes in the state. She only completed her formal education till Standard X. Starting from a lowly family, she worked at the grassroots level and contributed to the conversion of nine villages into places where open defecation is not permitted.
She manufactured more than 700 sanitary units. She also led numerous initiatives to spread the word about the harmful effects of open defecation. In order to empower indigenous women, she helped organise 162 women’s self-help organisations. These self-help groups provided the tribal community with the advantages of several government programmes for the growth of women.
These comprised benefits from the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, Atal Pension Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Yojana, and Sukanya Yojana. She put a lot of effort into spreading the word about various widow-benefitting programmes in order to better the lives of widows. She has played a key role in the campaign to stop the COVID-19 outbreak.
