Who is Shyamamani Devi ?
Shyamamani Devi Symmai Debi, who was born in 1938, is a vocalist and composer of traditional Odissi music. She is well-known for her popular interpretations of classical Odissi music, including Odissi, Chhanda, and Champu, which were composed by medieval Odia musician-poets like Upendra Bhanja, Kabisurjya Baladeba Ratha, Banamali Dasa, Gopalakrusna, and others. She was a student of Gurus Singh1ari Shyamsundar Kar and Balakrishna Dash. She is particularly well-known for her interpretations of light music, including adhunika ballads and traditional Odia folk music. She received Padma Shri in 2022 for her contributions to Odissi music.
