In 2022, the Indian government awarded Jagjit Singh Dardi the Padma Shri, the third-highest honor in the Padma series of honors, in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to business and industry. This honor is given to him in recognition of his services as a “Veteran Punjabi Media Leader and Educationist, Chairman of the Chardikala group.
Who is Jagjit Singh Dardi?

The journalist and educator Jagjit Singh Dardi was born in the Indian State of Punjab on January 19, 1949. He serves as the chief editor of the daily Chardikala, a publication that first appeared in the Punjabi language in 1977. His father, G. Harnam Singh, served as the founding editor of the Charhdikala Marg, a fortnightly publication that Dardi began in 1970. In 1977, this biweekly publication underwent a conversion to become a daily publication. He oversees Chardikla Time TV, a news station in Punjab. A chain of higher education institutions, the Sri Guru Harkrishan Group of Institutes, also has him as its chairman.
