Who is Ms. Prabhaben Shah ?
When Mahatma Gandhi announced the Quit India Movement in 1942 at a Congress Session in Bombay, Prabhaben Shah of Daman was 12 years old (now Mumbai).
Prabhaben, who had grown up around Bardoli’s Swaraj Ashram, made a commitment to help in the freedom movement and slept on a jute sack for about six months. She made cotton khadi in class using charkha as a symbolic act of boycotting imported goods.
After India gained freedom, Prabhaben kept making contributions to society because she was motivated by Gandhi’s ideas and ideology. She then worked in a variety of social fields, including health care, education, women’s empowerment, relief efforts for natural disasters, and during wars with neighbouring nations.
