Konsam Ibomcha Singh
Konsam Ibomcha Singh, a 58-year-old Manipur-based traditional doll maker, awarded the prestigious Padma Shri award on March 21 in Delhi. He has been given a prize in the area of art (Craft- Toy). The dolls have been created by the artist for over three decades. The doll maker stated, “I didn’t apply for this prize, feeling lucky to earn the accolade,” in a statement to ANI. Craft is encouraged by the PM. I’m the only person in the area who makes dolls in this manner.
Who is Konsam Ibomcha Singh ?
Konsam Ibomcha Singh was born to National Awardee parents in Imphal East, Manipur. His mother, Konsam Ongbi Gambhini Devi, and father, Konsam Tona Singh, each received awards for their work in the Kauna Craft and Dolls and Toys categories. The decision by Ibomcha to use his father’s century-old doll-making process, for which he received the Manipur State Award.
