Guruprasad Mohapatra, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer who served from 22 April 1962 to 19 June 2021, held a number of significant roles in both the Gujarat State Government and the Indian Central Government. He was the Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) in the Government of India at the time of his death in June 2021 as a result of COVID-19.

He labored day and night in April 2021, when the Covid pandemic was at its worst and the number of Covid deaths in the nation was at its highest, despite the fact that he too was suffering from the sickness. Mahapatra received the Padma Shri award posthumously from the Indian government in 2022, in recognition of his tremendous efforts to lessen the pain of Covid patients.
